Friedrich Merz (German politician)

Friedrich Merz (born 11 November 1955) is a German politician and member of the Christian Democratic Union. He was a member of the European Parliament from 1989 to 1994 and was elected to the Bundestag from 1994 until 2009. From 2000 to 2002 he served as chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group. In 2018 and in 2021 he was a candidate in the CDU leadership election, placing second both times.

Nehemiah Persoff

Nehemiah Persoff (born 2 August 1919) is an American retired actor and painter. He was born in Jerusalem and emigrated to the United States with his family in 1929. After graduating from the Hebrew Technical Institute he found a job as an electrician on the New York City Subway. He soon began to take interest in acting and joined amateur theatre groups. After he had served in the army during World War II, he returned to the stage and eventually started to appear in films.

Due to declining health Persoff had to limit his acting work in 1985 and made only occasional film and television appearances. Eventually he retired from acting entirely, but he picked up painting as a hobby and has ever since created beautiful works of art.

Between 1948 and 1999 Persoff appeared in almost 200 film and television productions, mostly in supporting roles. In Some Like It Hot, Persoff played one of his most famous roles as mafia boss Little Bonaparte, which was a parody of the Italian dictator Mussolini. His film and television credits include Twins, Columbo, Hawaii Five-O, Law & Order, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Murder, She Wrote.

One month ago I sent a letter, a self-addressed stamped envelope and a photo to be signed and today I received it back.

Jacinda Ardern (Prime Minister of New Zealand)

Jacinda Ardern (born 26 July 1980) is a New Zealand politician who has been serving as the 40th prime minister of New Zealand and the leader of the Labour Party since 2017. When she was first elected to the House of Representatives at the age of 28 years in 2008, she was the youngest member of parliament and when she became prime minister at the age of 37 years, she was the world's youngest female head of state.

Sir Ian McKellen

Sir Ian McKellen (born 25 May 1939) is an English actor. He has received several important awards and nominations including a Tony Award, a Golden Globe Award and two Oscar nominations and is considered to be one of the greatest stage and screen actors in the world. In 1991 he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his contributions to the performing arts.

Ian McKellen is homosexual and has been active in the gay rights movement ever since he came out of the closet in 1988, when "Section 28" (part of the Local Government Act 1988) was passed, prohibiting local authorities in the UK from promoting homosexuality.

Some of McKellen's most famous and important roles include Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, Magneto in the X-Men films, James Whale in Gods and Monsters and Richard III from Shakespeare's play of the same name.

A few months ago I sent a letter, a self-addressed stamped envelope and a photo to be signed and today I received it back. Since Ian McKellen is one of my favourite actors, this is a great success for me.

George Vella (President of Malta)

George William Vella (born 24 April 1942) is a Maltese politician and currently the 10th President of Malta since it became a republic in 1974. Vella is a member of the Maltese Labour Party and started his parliamentary career in 1976. He served as Minister for Foreign Affairs from 1996 to 1998 and from 2013 to 2017 and in 2019 he was inaugurated as the President.
